Three Monkey Collectors Meeting 2014 in USA

Tom and Connie Clark will host the 2014 No Evil Monkey Collectors Gathering in Mankato, Minnesota, about 60 miles south of Minneapolis, and close to their home in Cleveland, Minnesota. No date has been set yet, but they are looking at the last two weeks of July and the first 10 days of August 2014.

Once more the three monkey figurine of Mahatma Gandhi

Some time ago we reported that the three monkeys of Gandhi had been auctioned in the UK for more than US$ 50.000.00.

Frequent visitors to this website are aware, that we are having great doubts about the authenticity of the “original Gandhi monkeys”. Here are two short video clips concerning the auction and it does not need an expert to notice that the monkey sets shown are very much different.

There are a number of museums and ashrams in India that all claim to possess the original 3-monkeys of Gandhi and all of these monkey sets look completely different.

This day takes place on 28th July every year and provides international focus for patient groups and people living with viral hepatitis. Pictures of the website do not show

We received a number of alarming messages that the pictures of our website cannot be viewed. It turned out that a recent update of Internet Explorer 8, 9 and older versions is causing the problem. Other browsers like Internet Explorer 10, Google Chrome and Firefox etc. are not affected. We can only hope that Microsoft will soon prepare a “patch” so that this problem will be solved. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but for the moment there is nothing we can do about it, other than the suggestion to update to IE 10.

Mahatma Gandhi’s three-monkeys auctioned in the UK

News release on YouTube: May 17, 2013: Mahatma Gandhi's personal belongings and documents, including his prayer beads, drinking cup, a pair of sandals and ivory-carved 'Three Wise Monkeys', on auction in the UK on May 21, 2013. Auction report: Mahatma Gandhi’s “Three Monkeys,” excited a lot of interest while bidding and delicately carved miniature figures in a white wood originally attached to a small wooden tray sold for more than double the high estimate at £36,000, (54,436.00 US$)

Our comments: this would have been a unique opportunity to purchase the „original“ three-monkey figurines of Gandhi. (One of the many original sets, ha!). This one was advertised as ivory-carved! “Five monkeys around the globe” statues in Bonn Germany.

We recently visited the 5 monkey statues of our Picture of the Month for February 2013. Here is a link to Google Street View showing the location and surrounding of this interesting piece of art. There is no information available about sculptor or item, but it looks like the monkeys represent the five continents.

Three-Monkeys.Info - six years old

On April 1, 2013, this website www.three-monkeys.info is six years old. Over these years many three-monkey collectors and others from all over the world have contacted us. We also received many emails with questions about the three monkeys. There are now approx. 550 entries in the Guestbook, which is in fact more of a Message Board with a lot of interesting information.

We would like to use this opportunity to thank the many collectors and other website visitors for all information and suggestions that have greatly helped to keep this website interesting and up-to-date. Special thanks go to Yvelyne Auzou for the translations in French, to Winfried Hamacher for the fine-tuning of the German texts and to Bruce Kittess for his input and assistance with research projects.
