Drei-Affensammler?: nein

Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 10:44 pm

Hallo,

3 Monkeys Collector?: yes

I don't know if I have signed this before.  Good news letter. Very interesting.  I am a collector.  Have over 100 sets.  Cannot afford to pay a lot for them.

I am also an artist and I have carved one set from wood.  Made one set of clay (fired) and one set of that Fimo clay.  I have not made a painting yet, but may soon do that.

A friend of mine (a male crochet artist) made me an afghan where he crotched them as design in the piece.

It is beautiful.

3 Monkeys Collector?: no longer active

Dear Emil

Thank you for the Newsletter. It s getting richer in content. As I obeyed your "Click here", it took me long time to read through. You too must have been quite occupied mailing to over 400 addresses!

One American female collector writes in her webblog that she has three monkeys marked "Japan". Without the mark they can be easily recognized as Japanese. The clue is the red face. As I told before, majority of monkeys have black skin and long tail while uniquely Japanese monkey has red face and short tail. The knowledge of this characteristic features might be helpful for collectors.

She also writes: "items made in Japan were not available for a long time because of the war". This is a nice tip for me. By the way, Trifari brooches in form of three monkeys were made in 1941--the very year when America and Japan started the war. A bit strange.

Three monkeys in Goa. According to the Chinese calendar, 2010 is surely the Year of Tiger. That is true also in Japan. The said three monkeys have nothing to do with the calendar. I presume they are "Gandhi's monkeys".

I received a letter from one reader of my book. He spotted three wise monkeys in a souvenir shop at the mountain gorilla sanctuary near the Ruwenzori National Park, Rwanda. Reportedly the natives insisted three monkeys are their products with very old history, which teach how to get along in a life. Now we have learnt that three monkeys are ubiquitous in Africa. In this connection, I wonder if you can use your web site to gather more information on African three monkeys. My letter inquiries to museums there have so far been ignored. Maybe not your now popular web site. To know the history of our three monkeys, knowledge about the situations in Africa is essential. Michio

We will try to create a Forum in this website, so that everyone who has some ideas and suggestions concerning Africa and the 3 monkeys can leave a message.

3 Monkeys Collector?: no longer

Saturday, May 08, 2010 at 03:55 pm

Hello!

My father has a collection of about 300 three-monkeys. He’s getting older and has no longer interest in the monkeys. He had asked me if I can help him selling the collection. Is there anyone who is interested in the whole collection?

Best regards, Mona.

I saw a three wise monkeys t shirt on Hollyoaks some time ago in the style of Banksy the graffitti artist but despite asking them where they got it have been unable to trace it. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks

Drei-Affensammler?: nein

Gruss WV

Webmaster’s comment:

Guten Tag Herr Vollmer,

Zum Beispiel in Englisch: hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil.
