Hi, I wonder if you could give me any info on this three monkey carving that I picked up at a car boot in England. It measures 100mm high x 95mm wide at base and weighs 251.5 grams and is carved from bone. Look forward to your reply, kind regards

Hi, ik vraag me af of u mij enige informatie kunt geven over deze HZZ die ik op een “kofferbak” verkoop in Engeland gekocht heb. Ze zijn 100 mm hoog x 95 mm breed, wegen 251,5 gram en het geheel is van been gemaakt. Ik kijk er naar uit iets van u te horen, Vriendelijke groeten

This item is approx. 30 years old and was made in the Far East, probably China. The material looks like bone but it is in fact a kind of ceramic. Unfortunately, over the past years, a huge number of copies have been produced, mainly in Thailand, mostly in a very dark reddish brown colour. Below you can see some pictures of items that were offered for sale just today in eBay. Because of this “flooding”, prices obtained are ranging between UK£ 4 and 7. Very few collectors would be interested to pay more for an “original”. Hope this information is useful to you.

Deze HZZ figuur is ca. 30 jaar oud en komt uit het Verre Oosten, vermoedelijk uit China. Het materiaal ziet eruit als been, maar is eigenlijk een soort keramiek. Helaas zijn er in de loop der tijd enorme hoeveelheden copieën op de markt gekomen, hoofdzakelijk uit Thailand en in een donkerrode kleur. Hier onder staan foto’s van exemplaren, die alleen al vandaag in eBay aangeboden worden. Vanwege deze vele copieën liggen de prijzen tussen 6 en 10 Euro. Er zijn niet veel verzamelaars die geinteresseerd zijn om meer te betalen voor een “origineel”.

Diese Figur ist ca. 30 Jahre alt und stammt aus dem Fernen Osten, vermutlich aus China. Das Material sieht aus wie Bein, ist aber eine Art Keramik. Leider wurden im Laufe der Zeit grössere Mengen an Kopien gefertigt, hauptsächlich aus Thailand und meistens in einer dunkelroten Farbe. Hier unten sind Bilder solcher Figuren, so wie sie am heutigen Tag in eBay angeboten werden. Wegen diesen vielen Kopien liegen die Preise so zwischen 6 und 10 Euro. Es gibt nur wenige Sammler die für ein „Original“ mehr Geld ausgeben werden. Ich hoffe, dass diese Informationen nützlich sind.
