Story:

*  I acquired a little piece, which somehow looks older to me as there are shiny areas of wear from years of handling I think.  I have no idea what it is made of, nor the value.  I haven't found one quite like it online. Would love to know the value - could I send you a photo for your expert opinion?

Here's the photo. Size is approx. 3 1/4 high X 4 1/4 wide.  Guessing it's some kind of faux ivory, also given the smoothness/shininess of them being handled, I wondered if they might be a little older than some?

Valuation:

*  These monkeys are probably over 60 years old, from the time before WWII. They are made of a composite material that can consist of chalk, marble powder and similar with a binder. This item originates from Europe, but I am not able to say exactly where. They are mostly seen in France and in Holland, so I guess that it must be one of these countries, but have no pertinent information. From the pictures I would say that your monkeys are in quite good condition. The original blue paint has been mostly removed or maybe has just flaked off. These monkeys are not very rare, but also not very common. They probably are of interest for collectors, rather than the general public. The most difficult question is the value. Especially hard to say in these troubled economic times. If you list them in EBay and two collectors start fighting over this item, the price can easily go up to over US$ 50. But it can also be that you list it for US$ 10 and get no bids. Please let me know that you have received this email and I hope that this information is useful to you. I will be pleased to answer further questions you may have.

Thank you so very much.  I could never have found this out on my own - so kind of you. Sharon
